The eye rolls don't scare me.

Before becoming a counselor, I worked as a middle school teacher and high school counselor. I understand awkward silences, one-word answers, friendship drama, anxiety, ADHD, school stress, identity, confidence, and boundaries. I don't expect teens to open up immediately. Sometimes we begin with a game or an activity that interests them. Connection comes before conversation.

In person or virtual

Therapy that meets teens where they are.

Preteens and teens can meet with me in person in McAllen or virtually from anywhere in Texas. Sessions are tailored to their interests, comfort level, and treatment goals. We don't have to start with a long list of questions.

In-person sessions

At The Groves in McAllen, we might use card games, board games, art, creative challenges, journaling, or simply talk. Shared activities can help conversations unfold naturally while we work on coping skills, confidence, relationships, and emotional regulation.

Virtual sessions

Meet from a private, comfortable space at home. We can use digital games, virtual escape rooms, screen-shared activities, art, music, interactive prompts, or age-appropriate video games. Some teens find it easier to talk while they're doing something familiar.

What we work on

Friendships, healthy relationships, boundaries, anxiety, ADHD and executive functioning, school stress, self-esteem, identity, communication, and managing big emotions. Activities are chosen to support these goals, not just to pass the time.

Why families choose virtual

Connection doesn't have to happen in an office.

Less pressure to open up

Being in a familiar space and connecting through a game or shared activity may help a hesitant teen feel more at ease. We can build rapport without forcing eye contact or immediate personal disclosure.

Fits busy schedules

Virtual appointments can reduce commuting between school, sports, extracurricular activities, and family responsibilities, making consistent care more manageable.

Skills for everyday life

We can practice problem-solving, frustration tolerance, flexible thinking, emotional awareness, and communication in activities that feel relevant to teens' everyday experiences.

Virtual counseling isn't the best fit for every teen. We'll consider privacy, technology, safety, engagement, and individual needs together. A private space and reliable connection are important.
